Sam Thompson’s Match Ball Mission for Soccer Aid for UNICEF: Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions apply to your use of the donation service for the Soccer Aid Appeal (the “donation service”). You may use the donation service to make a donation via one of the methods stated in these terms or via any other method as may be specified by The UK Commitee for UNICEF (“UNICEF UK”) when the donation service is available.

A. Donations to Sam’s Match Ball Mission for Soccer Aid
Donations to Sam’s Match Ball Mission for Soccer Aid for UNICEF are for the benefit of The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK). UNICEF UK is a charity (registered in England and Wales under charity number 1072612 and registered in Scotland under charity number SC043677) and a company limited by guarantee (company number 3663181), whose registered office is at 1 Westfield Avenue, Stratford, London, E20 1HZ. More details about the charity and its activities are available at www.unicef.org.uk.
Every donation to Soccer Aid for UNICEF made by the UK public via text or online until Tuesday 15 July 2025 at 12pm will be matched by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), up to a maximum of £5 (five) million. Any donation made prior to Sunday 15 June 2025, with the exception of online monthly pledges, will be included in the Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025 total.
There are no administrative fees payable by you for donations you make online or by text (other than your internet provider’s charges and/or standard network rate message as set out below). 100% of all donations and any applicable Gift Aid will go to UNICEF UK.
B. Who can donate
You must be aged 18 years or over and resident in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man to use the donation service and to Gift Aid your donation (details of Gift Aid are set out in Section E below). UNICEF UK gives no warranty that the donation service will be available, legal or appropriate for use in locations outside the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
C. Donation period opening and closing times
- The donation period for donations made by SMS text (for the Keywords TEN, TWENTY and THIRTY) and online via socceraid.org.uk/challenge(“Website”) opens on Wednesday 13 May 2025.
- The donation period for donations made by SMS text message (for all Keywords) and online via the Website closes at midday on Tuesday 15 July 2025.
Please note that donations made or received outside of these specified times may not be included in Sam Thompson’s Match Ball Mission for Soccer Aid for UNICEF but you may still be charged as set out below.
D. How to donate
You can donate to Sam Thompson’s Match Ball Mission for Soccer Aid for UNICEF by the following methods:
- Online
You may make a one-off donation or a monthly pledge to Soccer Aid for UNICEF by going online to the Website (or any other websites we may add at a later point) and following the instructions provided. You may donate an amount of your choice using any major credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. Donations made using Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal (“Payment Processors”) are subject to the relevant applicable Payment Processor terms and conditions. You will be asked for how much you wish to donate and for your contact and payment details.
There is no limit on the number of times you may make an online donation until the closing date and time but the minimum donation is £2. The maximum donation for a one-off donation is £99,999, and maximum monthly pledge is £1,000.
There is no charge (other than your chosen donation amount) to donate online but your internet service provider may charge you for accessing the internet.
- By SMS text message
You may make a donation in the amount of £10 by sending a text with the keyword ‘TEN’, or £20 by sending a text with the keyword ‘TWENTY’, or £30 by sending a text with the keyword ‘THIRTY’ (each a “Keyword”) to 70156 during the donation period.
Each SMS text message costs either £10 plus one standard network rate message, £20 plus one standard network rate message or £30 plus one standard network rate message depending on which amount you choose to donate. Please ask the bill payer permission before donating.
There is no limit on the number of times you may make a donation, but there is a daily limit of £40 on donations made by text (SMS donations). Further text donations will not be accepted if you have already donated £40 by SMS text in one day.
For any SMS text made or received your internet service provider and/or network operator may apply additional data charges. No refunds are available for the cost of any SMS text made, received or for any misdialled short codes or misspelt keyword.
If you do not have sufficient credit in your mobile account or if you have sufficient credit for a standard network rate message but not for your donation or if you are otherwise unable to access the shortcode because of any settings on your mobile account, your donation may be unsuccessful.
E. Gift Aid
If you are an eligible UK taxpayer and are 18 years old or over, UNICEF UK may claim Gift Aid from HM Revenue & Customs via the online or SMS text donation methods and hence increase the amount you donate by up to 25%, at no extra cost to you. During or after your donation via online or SMS text you will be provided with additional information on how to sign up to Gift Aid (for SMS text, you will receive a text message with a link which will take you to a web page with instructions to follow which will allow you to add Gift Aid if you are eligible to do so. You will be required to provide information including, but not limited to, your title, name, home address and postcode for the purposes of claiming Gift Aid.
The payment of Gift Aid to charities is subject to HM Revenue & Customs’ acceptance of the charity’s Gift Aid claim. If an individual pays less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all their donations in that tax year, it is their responsibility to pay any difference.

F. General
Any donation made is non-refundable and non-transferable, except that donations of £100 or more may be refunded if requested in writing to UNICEF UK’s Supporter Care team via [email protected] within 7 days of payment. An approved refund for donations of £100 or more will be made within 28 days of the request. Otherwise, the transaction is final and not disputable. If you become aware of fraudulent use of your credit/debit card, or if it is lost or stolen, you must notify your card provider in accordance with its reporting rules.
UNICEF UK and their sub-contractors may suspend, withdraw or re-set the donation service (or any part of the donation service) in its sole discretion at any time and does not accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any telephone network or line, system, server, software provider or otherwise which may result in any donation not being properly registered or recorded.
UNICEF UK cannot promise that the donation services and systems will be free from errors or omissions nor that it will be available uninterrupted and in a fully operating condition. The donation services and systems may be suspended temporarily and without notice in the case of system failure, maintenance or repair or for reasons beyond the reasonable control of UNICEF UK. UNICEF UK will not be liable to you or to any other person in the event that all or any part of the services or system is discontinued, modified or changed in any way.
Trademarks, service marks or logos that appear in relation to the website, donation service and/or its associated services, in particular (but not exclusively) those of UNICEF UK or its subcontractors, are the property of their respective owners and are likely to be registered trademarks and subject to restrictions as to their use. They must not be used without the express permission of the trade mark owner. All content on the website and its associated services is owned by UNICEF UK and its subcontractors or other original providers, and is protected by the applicable intellectual property and proprietary rights and laws. You may use the donation services exclusively for your personal, non-commercial use provided you do not alter it or remove any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notice. No other use of the donation services’ content is permitted without the express prior permission of UNICEF UK, and, where applicable, the copyright holder.
UNICEF UK and its subcontractors shall not (and nothing in these terms and conditions shall) act to exclude or limit their own liability for death or personal injury resulting from its negligence, fraud or any other liability which may not by applicable law be excluded or limited. You agree that your use of the donation services is on an “as is” and “as available” basis and that your use of the donation services is at your sole risk. UNICEF UK and its subcontractors cannot guarantee continuous uninterrupted or secure access to the donation services and operation of the donation services may be interfered with by numerous factors outside of their control. On that basis, except as expressly set out in these terms and conditions, UNICEF UK and its subcontractors shall not provide conditions, warranties or other terms in relation to the donation services to the extent permissible by law.
Subject to exceptions listed above, in no event shall UNICEF UK or its subcontractors be liable (whether for breach of contract, negligence or for any other reason) for any loss or damage which you may claim to have suffered by reason of your accessing and use of the Website, the donation services and its associated services, including (but not limited to) loss of profits, exemplary or special damages, loss of sales, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, loss of any software or data, loss of bargain, loss of opportunity, loss of use of computer equipment, loss of or waste of management or other staff time, or for any indirect, consequential or special loss, however arising.
These terms and conditions are available in English only and shall be exclusively governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England unless the person using the donation service is a Scottish or Northern Irish resident in which case he/she may choose the law of their residence and they irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales again unless the person using the donation service is a Scottish or Northern Irish resident in which case they may choose the courts of their residence in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
UNICEF UK may update and amend these terms from time to time and any changes will be posted on socceraid.org.uk/challengeterms. We will not file or store a copy of these terms for each interaction or transaction by you. We therefore recommend that you print and store or save a copy of these terms for future reference.
